There is nothing like the World Cup to show the incredible potential of social collaboration, as literally billions of people across the globe are sharing in the thrilling pinnacle of the beautiful game. With countless hours invested from the players on the field and their die-hard fans in the crowd, the event is the end result of a common devotion. But even if your country isn't represented on the pitch in Brazil, you can still elicit cheers from your team of employees, with the help of some nifty new moves from Microsoft.
Back in March at the SharePoint Conference 2014, Microsoft teased us with their enterprise social vision and road map. Since then though, there hasn't been much more announced... until now!
From their blog:
Get ready for a new, simple way to collaborate on the content you produce with Office Online, and store in the Cloud in SharePoint Online or OneDrive for Business. All new Yammer Document Conversations enable people to share their ideas and expertise around Office documents, images and videos right from within the content they are editing or reviewing. Imagine being able to ask questions, find expertise and offer feedback about content, without ever having to leave the application you're working in! With Yammer this is now possible and because it's Yammer, you can also view and participate in conversations outside your document, on your mobile device, in Microsoft Dynamics CRM, or any app where a Yammer feed is embedded!
Team collaboration often focuses on documents, and the easier it is to communicate around those documents, the easier it is to move projects forward. With Yammer Document Conversations having these two-way exchanges about content in real time, from within the documents themselves, can not only enhance communication, but it can also improve employee engagement and spark innovation. Judging from their brief demo this looks to be a real game changer, especially as it reportedly supports over 30 common file types, including .doc, .xls, .ppt, .pdf, .png, .gif, .mp4, .avi, and more!
Enterprise social is hot stuff and the capabilities of Yammer are always growing and becoming ever more interwoven with the rest of the Microsoft enterprise technology stack.
