You don't need a SharePoint Intranet

Many employees will only have a rudimentary understanding of 'the cloud' from the consumer world and services such as iCloud, Dropbox and maybe Office apps. They only know SharePoint as 'that place where we [are supposed to] store documents... right?'

Let's get real and be honest, the people in your workforce who really get things done, commonly referred to as Information Workers, are not asking IT to provide them with SharePoint or Office 365. In fact many of them will only have a rudimentary understanding of 'the cloud' from the consumer world and services such as iCloud, Dropbox and maybe Office apps. They only know SharePoint as 'that place where we [are supposed to] store documents... right?'

If you take technology out of the equation and ask them what they really want, aggregate and summarize the results, then you will come the conclusion that we have found at BrightStarr, which is that people simply want a way to be more productive. They want an easier way to collaborate and share knowledge, a way of using the best bits of social tools they use every day in their lives outside of work in the corporate environment, and ultimately a way to get their job done faster and easier.

At the end of the day technology is a means to an end, and it is all too easy to get lost in a world of features and technical solutions and lose sight of the big hairy goals that sparked the need for a new or updated platform in the first place. Realizing and making a commitment to stay true to this ethos and culture is part of the fabric of an exciting and fundamental shift that is happening at BrightStarr. A shift that is being embodied by a new, and indeed our first product, called Unily, where we proudly and boldly aim to 'Unite the Enterprise'. If you start with the WHY and not the HOW, then we believe that you can do really great things that will enable real and substantial change to organizations.

In case you are reading this and think that my opening commentary means that Unily is some new propriety technology to replace SharePoint, then please let me clarify that BrightStarr loves SharePoint, and it is at the heart of our Unily solution. My point is simple;

You don't need a SharePoint Intranet. You need a successful Intranet.

We are passionate about achieving this goal and believe that Unily is the key ingredient in a repeatable recipe we have created, to turn marketing words into a reality for every organization that really gets what we are trying to do and wants to be part of our exciting journey.

So what is this Unily thing I hear you ask? Put simply it is an extensible Intranet as a Service built on the robust and fully-featured Microsoft Cloud platform, with expansive out-of-the-box functionality, drawing on the full capabilities of SharePoint Online and Microsoft Office 365. Unily is the culmination of the experience BrightStarr has gained from delivering hundreds of the corporate Intranet solutions and was designed to immediately deliver 60% - 80% of the core functionality that any modern enterprise demands, encompassing;

  • News
  • Blogs
  • Social
  • Collaborative workspaces
  • Document management
  • Mobility

With all of these features wrapped in a beautiful and custom design that represents your brand. This feature-set is only the beginning as what we believe is truly ground-breaking is the guaranteed customer success solutions that we bundle with the service. Our success services are all geared towards working with you to make Unily an essential digital solution that boosts productivity and delivers real return on investment.

To achieve all this and ensure that we could evolve the product in line with Microsoft latest feature releases and react to changing industry trends and best practice, we made the decision to mirror Microsoft's online pricing model and make Unily a subscription based service. Delivering a managed solution that is used by all of our clients, while still remaining flexible and allowing customization and the full unrestricted use of the SharePoint platform, has enabled us to offer Unily at pricing that is far more competitive than a more traditional project approach.

You can find out more about Unily at www.unily.com. We would love to share our vision with you and show you what an Intranet as a Service can do for your organization.
